Newborn Twins : Payten and Emmerson

March 24th, 2010 | Posted in , Fort McMurray, Kids, Newborns | 3 Comments »

Birth is said to be a miracle – and life is said to be a gift.  Watching and holding a newborn – you know that those statements are true.

I am continuously amazed with how the  personality of a little one shines through…even at such an early age, giving others a glimpse potentially in the years to come and causing loved ones to dream a little of what their life may hold.

Taking the wonder of all of that, multiplying it by two, and adding in two incredible (and proud) parents….and you have twin sisters, Payten and Emmerson and their wonderful family.  I loved witnessing how different they are from each other – yet also seeing them together and some of the tender moments that it seems that only twins can share.  These two are so precious and were amazing to work with – not to mention mom and dad who worked extra hard to cater to their needs and to help make these images what they are.  I definitely couldn’t have done it without them!

Payten, the eldest by 23 minutes, was so alert and patient yesterday as we shot. I absolutely love her eyes and her beautiful head of hair. Emmerson is the youngest, the smallest, yet holds a delicate beauty all of her own.  She is the more serious and analytical one of the two and often had a furrowed brow as it looks like she is trying to figure things out or size you up!  Both are so beautiful and yet so different – and for all of their own amazing reasons.

I can’t wait to see these two grow up and am looking forward to having another session with them when they are 3 months!

Engagement : Vanessa & Sean

March 12th, 2010 | Posted in Couples, Engagements, Fort McMurray | 2 Comments »

There is something special about getting together and photographing two people that are in love.  My morning with Vanessa & Sean was definitely the highlight of my day and  I feel like we laughed the whole time : )

These two are wonderful to be around and their love and appreciation for each other is so obvious.   A testimony of this commitment to one another was that Sean has Vanessa’s name tattoo’d on the inside of his wrist…so we definitely needed to capture that!

After spending more time with these two – it is a given that their wedding is going to be simply beautiful….not to mention a lot of fun!

Can’t wait!

Where were you when Canada won GOLD?

March 4th, 2010 | Posted in , Travel | 1 Comment »

The status of one of my friends on facebook read “Dear World. Canada will be closed for the next couple of hours“. I bet you can guess when this was!  It seemed so fitting and so absolutely perfect….especially given the circumstances : )  This was the game of all games – the gold that the country was hoping for and the medal that seemed to matter the most to many.

They said, following the win, that Canadians will remember where they were at that moment for years to come.  It is true.  Where was I at that moment, you ask?  Well….we were walking (and shooting) in the midst of Cathedral Grove on Vancouver Island – one of the most beautiful and serene places in this country. It seemed so ironic given what was going on and how people were swarming to TVs and radios all over the country, waiting with baited breath, wondering if today may be the day. Now don’t get me wrong…I was not oblivious to the game!  Far from it!  Thanks to a wonderful friend, I was receiving play by play texts and was stressed enough as it was with Canada being ahead by 2….then only by 1……then US scoring with only seconds left in the game to tie it up. YIKES!  Then there was overtime… and that goal by Crosby that will not be forgotten!

We stopped for ice cream in Coombs to celebrate the gold (and to explore) and I smiled as I listened to various people greet each other in the streets.  It was not with a “hello” or a “good evening” but with a “Did you see the game!?”  There was a smile playing on the lips and a spring in the step of passers by – as if they were concealing a wonderful secret….or perhaps just refraining from jumping up and down!

Where were you at that unforgettable moment?

Proud to be Canadian!

Rose Reflections

March 4th, 2010 | Posted in General | 1 Comment »

I received a beautiful bouquet for roses from my wonderful husband, which I proudly displayed in the middle of our kitchen table.  Like any flower-a-holic, I savored every blossom and watched as they dwindled down to the final two.

There they stood – only two remaining – a symbol of unity, commrodery and partnership.  I wondered if one was going to outlast the other.

This is what happened.  They went their seperate ways. It was as if they had enough of each other.

During that time there were a few relationships around me that were struggling or falling apart.  I kept these “final two” out for a long time as a reminder – not only of those that were currently hurting - but also of how quickly a relationship can suffer and change.

May this image be a reminder to you of the same.  May it challenge you to put others ahead of yourself.  To take a moment to tell someone that you appreciate or love them. May you take time to invest in those friendships and relationships that you have been blessed with and may you not take them for granted.

Take time to love – to laugh – and don’t forget to make lots of memories : )
